At SWI we provide a work based learning centre where people with a variety of needs can come and integrate into the world of work. Many of our clients can display challenging behaviour due to Learning Difficulties, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Mental Health Issues, Deafness and some just need some extra support to integrate and become a positive and effective member of the community.
We have trained staff available on site to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone at the farm. Each client will initially have an assessment based on information gained from themselves, family, carers or social workers. We aim to get teams of people working together as there would be in any working environment. This will enable our clients to build on their social skills, empathy and gain useful knowledge of a working environment.
Some of our clients may have significant care needs or behaviour difficulties and it may be necessary to offer a 1;1 support package. This will be discussed during the referral process.
At SWI we are not simply a day care centre, we offer work based training and this is evidenced and supported via ASDAN Certificates and Awards. There are limited numbers of placements available daily and some clients come to 'The Farm' three or four times per week, some come one day per week. To discuss fees please call Sarah on 07917142807 or request your Transitions/Social Worker to call and confirm funding. A contract is agreed with our clients and includes a Code of Conduct that all clients must agree to prior to placement.
Our clients are encouraged to realise that the animals on the farm require careful handling and are monitored to ensure that they treat them appropriately. A full risk assessment is completed within the introductory sessions and clients that have difficulties in relating to the animals may need some extra staff support and guidance.
Our animals do not feel any discomfort from the work that we do. The majority of our clients enjoy touching and caring for the animals, nearly as much as the animals enjoy all the attention that they receive.
| Farmer's Market - Our Produce |
We will be sowing, planting and growing our own vegetables, soft fruits, apples and pears for next year. We hope to encourage some (if not all) of our clients to develop a working party that will go to local farmer's markets and sale our produce. They will design signage that will tell the story of all their hard work, they can share their individual acheivements and use the profits to organise a special event of their choosing. Click here
Our clients will be able to take some of the produce home with them, so that they can share their acheivements and be proud of all their hard work.
